Miles’ Intervention

1408-1Miles is late waking up to drive Frankie and Hunter to school.  After Mr. Hollingsworth yells at Miles, Frankie finds his stash and grills him about being addicted to weed.  At school, Miles tries to apologize to Tristan, who’s still upset because Miles ditched their presentation.  Miles tells Tristan that Perino will allow them to redo their presentation, and Tristan agrees as long as they meet up later to study.  Later, Tristan shows up with Frankie, Hunter and Winston and they hold an intervention.  Miles lashes out at them and runs out to his car.  As he’s backing out, he runs into Maya on her bicycle.

Maya’s unharmed and Miles winds up driving her to her therapy session.  While she meets with her therapist, Miles gets high in his car as he waits for her.  Once she returns, Miles drives slowly and Maya finally notices he’s high.  He accelerates and his car tears off opened door of a vehicle parked on the street.  Maya demands that Miles go back to the scene, but he refuses: since he has marijuana in his system he’d be charged with a DUI, and the consequences he would receive from his father would be too much for him to bear.

GRADE: B
QUICK REVIEW:  This was a setup episode, and in the case of Maya and Miles it puts them in a pickle going into 1409.  It’s awesome that we see a character actually going to therapy as opposed to it being implied!  It’s easy to see why Maya let things go after Miles told her what his father would do to him if it got out that Miles crashed into a car while high.  She still recognizes that Miles is in a dark place, and even though she’s going to therapy for anxiety stemming from Miles’ behavior and Cam’s suicide, that isn’t going to stop her from trying to protect Miles.

The Case Of The Degrassi Nudes Stalker

1408-2Zoë comes clean about the stalker’s demands, leaving the squad furious that she didn’t tell them when he first contacted her.  Zoë says they need to stick together, so they all visit Grace and ask for her help.  She’s able to track down the person to the Hollingsworth home, so Zoë and the squad interrogate Hunter.  They take his computer and get evidence of his graphic novel and blackmail him into no longer sending them threatening messages, and he agrees.  Later, Hunter’s at The Dot with Arlene and tells her he has no idea what the cheerleaders wanted with him.  He says he just agreed to their demands so they’d leave him alone, meaning the identity of the stalker is still unknown.

GRADE: A-
QUICK REVIEW: I really liked this plot for several reasons.  1) Jack confirmed that she does know what they were doing can be considered child pornography by law.  In my commentary about Zoë in 1405’s Power Rankings, I mentioned Jack’s motivation for being a part of Degrassi Nudes could be more about empowering women.  If you’re questioning why Jack would willingly partake in this scheme knowing it’s illegal, think of it this way: countless young people engage in underage drinking, fully aware of the fact it’s against the law.  2) Jack’s knowledge is counterbalanced by the rest of the squad’s lack of knowledge (aka Lola having no clue what they were doing is considered child porn).  3) I like how the writers are building up Zoë and the squad through a false sense of relief, only to have it all crashing down in later episodes. 4) Misdirection city with the seemingly obvious culprit (Hunter) not being the stalker.

Crellie 2.0?

1408-3Becky enjoys spending time with Jonah as they work on a song together because he encourages her.  He invites her to sing with him at The Dot’s open mic night and she agrees.  Drew gets kind of jealous because he believes guys and girls can’t be friends, and Jonah’s using this situation to make a move on Becky.  That makes Becky’s next meetup with Jonah uncomfortable, and she tells him she has a boyfriend.  Jonah tells her that he’s committed to God, so he wouldn’t try anything.  Prodigal Spoon’s performance is a success; while Drew apologizes for being jealous, Jonah walks off looking disappointed as Drecky makes up.

GRADE: B-
QUICK REVIEW: Becky and Jonah’s interaction in the episode was better than their first meeting.  I don’t think anyone actually likes Drecky, but at the very least you can understand specifically why they were drawn to each other and started dating:  they came together when they were both at very low points in their lives, and relied on each other for emotional comfort.  Outside of that Drecky has nothing in common, but on the other hand Becky and Jonah share core traits (music and God).  By default Jonah has the ability to provide Becky with the comfort she’s looking for (she told Drew that the band is the only thing she has right now), and it’s only a matter of time before he edges out Drew.

  1. So at this point I think we can all agree that it’s ***SPOILER ALERT*** Arlene who’s behind the doll and stuff. Kudos to the writers for throwing us off the trail with making us think it could be Hunter, Frankie, or Winston simply based on “motives” and completely diverting the attention away from her.

    1. Well the doll is a guys voice so maybe he made the doll. If it was Winston he would be focusing on it a little bit. he’s too concerned with Miles. we still got 3 episodes left after next Tuesday. I want the principal to find out at the end of the December 30th episode already. I want this cheerleading thing to carry on into the 14B June block. this is getting good, finally something I like.

      1. My instinct is that Hunter and Arlene are in on it together. They both have motive – particularly if they have figured out the Degrassi Nudes situation, and connected the dots to why Frankie is not on the squad anymore. They’d be getting one back for Frankie, who is Hunter’s twin, and for Arlene, whom the other girls pick on. And the way they were acting – very detattched from it all – I can’t help thinking it was BOTH of them. And if they’ve been hanging out – that means Arlene may have been at Hunter’s house, hence the signal.

I don’t like Jack – but my applause to her for standing up to Zoe. More people need to do so – then maybe Zoe wouldn’t be doing the kind of crap she does.

I feel very underwhelmed by Miles’ plot in this episode. I could have been so much better – so much bigger and uglier. I am glad that Maya is back in his sphere, and he seems to be finally grasping that his behavior is affecting more than himself. I get why he drove off from the accident – genuine fear of his father. I’m thinking more has happened in the past between them than what we’ve seen – and what we’re seeing is only hints of how bad it’s been or could be.

Becky and Jonah? Meh . . . and predictable. We need to get to know Jonah better before they start throwing him at Becky as a romantic option. And I found Drew being jealous of someone who he and Becky hardly know incredibly laugable.

      2. To the person who thinks Hunter and Arlene are in this together. The conversation Hunter and Arlene had seemed pretty clear Hunter has no idea what is going on. He told her about “Some kind of interrogation” and said he didn’t know what they wanted, he said it to shut them up. If he was involved clearly he would have known exactly what they were talking about. And it’s not like he would be lying to Arlene about not knowing what they were talking about, if the two of them were in on it together.

Clearly either Hunter has no clue what is going on, or he does and lied to Arlene. But the odds are he has no clue. It seemed clear when he told the girls he wouldn’t send anymore text he was just repeating what they wanted to hear, and had no real clue what he was even agreeing too.

Nice mislead on Hunter though. I figured once they confronted him he seemed to genuinely not know what they were accusing him of. But even then I never suspected Arlene, but she has an obvious motive. Although we have seen the cheerleaders picking on her, but not Zoe specifically. And Zoe while not a nice person she generally doesn’t unleash on people unless she feels they did something to tick her off. Tormenting a wierd loner who isn’t doing anything to her like the others did to Arlene doesn’t seem like Zoe’s style. So weird Arlene seems to be targeting Zoe.

      3. Anyone think the blackmailer could be a stalker with an obsession with Frankie? “He” wanted Zoe to quit the squad, after Zoe forced Frankie off the squad. In a stalker’s mind if Zoe is off the squad, Frankie could return. Also, everyone is searching for Frankie in the flash forward to episode 10.

Ruining the cheerleaders for hurting Frankie would also make sense if the blackmailer had an obsession with her. Given her family’s high media profile it could be just about anyone.

      4. well think of it like this-> think of Zoe as the virus & the girls are part of the virus that spreads. if you target the virus & kill it then the problem is gone. the principle finding out about the site that was an app he will kick her out. this is the key thing about to end. all the other stuff (the M/M/T/Z, Frankie & Winston, an senior stuff) will continue in 14B but this

nude thing needs to end, this isn’t a 2 block thing.. not with the principal finding out, I hope he finds out its Zoe at the end. this will be what takes her down. after this anything else is access damage. although I think this person telling everyone is a bit much. I guess they want her to know how it feels to be picked on. the only difference is if they do what I think

then her pic with her face will be revealed. unless we see that funny Zig thing. but even though people say she’s not going anywhere.. its not possible if Sim finds out at the end. once that happens its all over. her thing is more important an needs to be done.

  2. As much as I have been and am to this day a big shipper of Triles, I think this episode and future episodes will prove that this whole relationship is mainly about character development for Miles and in the end, the two will break up most likely bc Miles will realize it’s not right or fair to be with Tristan when he’s not giving their relationship his fullest as he did with Maya.

    1. The big issue is how the relationship plays for both sides. Miles is using Tristan the same way Drew was using Zoe: cheap ego-petting. Miles wants someone to not be on his case. Maya never lets him get away with crap, Winston and his siblings expect a certain level of screw up, and don’t interfere (but don’t enable either), and his parents are so many kinds of messed up.

Tristan meanwhile gets to live out his Pretty Woman daydreams of a nice, rich, handsome boy sweeping him off his feet and loving him for who he is. He’s not actually in love with Miles (the same way Clare wasn’t in love with Jake), he’s in love with not being alone.

There hasn’t been any development to undermine the concept. Miles has never earnestly apologized to Tristan for the crap he’s pulled, closest we get is Winston’s plot and even that was just ‘I like how I feel around Tristan, and I like kissing.’ Tristan has had one plot on this topic and he failed to read any of the signs as to what’s really in Miles’s head.

  3. At first, I started thinking that the mystery person was Arlene too, but what would be her motive for kicking Zoe of the team? Because she is the captain?

    1. That is true. I mean Zoe’s in grade 10, and most of the other cheerleaders are in grade 9, as well as Arlene. Zoe probably never did anything to Arlene, so it’s strange that Arlene would ask Zoe alone to quit. It might still be Hunter, although after this episode I’m unsure. He seems genuinely in the dark, or is a very good liar. Frankie? She’s not vindictive like that. Miles? Too f***ed up on pot right now. Maybe it’s Mister Hollingsworth, he’s f***ed up loll

      1. well Hunter could of made the doll. when he told Arlene it sounded like he was just an assistant. no one ever says “I just told them what they wanted” without being involved. Hunter was just sitting there working when they got to him. he just knew about the messages cus they told him. who knows what a guy high off weed could do but blackmailing

aint 1 of em. but right now I don’t care who it is. since there’s 3 episodes left after next Tuesday I want to see Sim find out about Zoe on December 30th ending. this is the only thing I like more & more. its just a matter of -> what is Jack going to do in that episode when she sees the app turnt into a site? an how would Sim find out. since she mentioned

what their doing will get them expelled if Sim finds out I hope in F1 or beginning of F2 that he finds Zoe an expels her. put it only depends on his ending. lets hope he gets the credit scene. if he does then there’s hope. I’ve watched a full season block earlier this year & I’ve never seen him as a main character in a plot. the 1st & 3rd plots get the last scenes.

they don’t need to carry this thing into the 14B June block, get it over with now! I just want to see him find out, Expel Zoe, an then have the person find out. I wonder if the blackmailer will show up then? or if Jack will take the girls if she see’s the site? she was all for listening to Zoe. they had a happy ending but it will be her LAST ending.

      2. OOOOOOHhh I think i know why. Since Frankie started being nice to Arlene she probably wanted to be a good friend back and get revenge on Zoe for Frankie by kicking her of the team.

  4. Great episode. don’t care about the Miles stuff. but I still watch it. I noticed Becky had the same shirt on for 4 scenes that she wore in a 13D episode, she just wore a different skirt instead of the same pants. guess we will see Jonah get to her in 14B. but what I came here for was the squad stuff. I love Jack takin charge. she’s a grade higher than Zoe so I hope she takes the girls away. its good she warned them about what happens if Sim finds out. but we don’t have enough time for the police to come. an Hunter acted like an assistant. but the fact that the Nude app turns into a site is awesome as hell. this will freak the girls out in December 30th. now since he is in the beginning I hope Sim gets the end, since he could get the credits he needs to somehow find out that Zoe is the one who created the idea. once that happens shit bout to go down. this doesn’t need to be in the 14B June block.. this needs to be finished by the 1st Commercial in F2. I hope after he finds out either Jack takes the girls cus they don’t want to go down with her or Sim finds out & I want to see her in

the office getting her punishment. I know it will be getting kicked out. what she did doesn’t equal a suspension. detention is too easy. so I also wonder what plot the fire is in. maybe the girls compete without Zoe or Sim comes & gets her before they compete. I want F1 or beginning of F2 to show her getting expelled. once that happens I am good. this is what I have been waiting for since the Missing You episode. the finale’s are very important. waiting till April to give her a punishment is stupid. if Zoe gets punished in F1 or f2 beginning then I wont mind waiting 11 weeks cus I know she will be gone which makes watching this show even better. I know she will get both plots. its just a matter of weather she gets the 1st or 3rd.. cus those are the most important, having the credits is very important. the 2nd plot never gets the ending.

  5. Does anyone else find it strange that they made a “Drew gets Jealous of Becky and a guy” story line when his brother Adam had the same story line that eventually lead to his obsession and death (sad face). You would think after that Drew wouldn’t be so petty. Also, with Claire being pregnant there have been snippets of them being friends, sharing meals alone (not exclusively necessary baby logistics) etc… why can’t he accept friendship for Becky and a guy.

    1. Jealousy isn’t a statement on the relationship, its a statement on the individual. Drew’s running theme has been insecurity. That his suave charming goodlooking hearthrobe thing is only skin deep. Under that is a scared guy afraid he’s just not meant to be good at anything. Adam’s jealousy wasn’t jealousy, Adam was chasing after love and not paying attention to the things around him, in the end. By that point it wasn’t even about the guy anymore.

Probably because without Becky he has nobody in his corner with the whole Pregnant Clare thing. Audra is… well, we’ve seen how she handles screw-up Drew. Clare wants to be with Eli (and Drew dropped the ball on this before once) which leaves Drew with only Dallas, because he’d lose Imogen in the break-up with Becky.

Also TV logic says all boys and girls want each other for is sex.

  6. Now that Hunter is no longer a suspect I think it is all but confirmed that Winston is the culprit. I outlined in another comment why he is the most likely candidate so I won’t go into great detail here, but basically he and Frank you’re showing together in the music video plotting revenge on Zoe, he is at the Hollingsworth’s a lot which Arlene wouldn’t be, and he has a clear motive to protect Frankie. Arlene also would not be primarily motivated again Zoie considering Lola and Shay are her primary tormentors.

Honestly I feel it would be A very interesting storyline to have Zoie in the cheerleaders get away with it. I think it would be an interesting lesson of sometimes the good doesn’t always happen. The rate trial of Zoe’s was just too perfect the way they were caught and convicted and it’s been a while since we’ve had a plot in which the bad side actually got away with it. It would be a good opportunity to show sometimes people do just get away with it.

I thought I would be very excited to see Mattlingsworth somewhat spark back up in this episode but if anything their interaction told me that that dog needs to stay buried. The chemistry just seems dead between the two of them and they don’t need to be together anymore given their history.

Surprisingly I was actually amused by Drecky in this episode and found them to be a little sweet. They’re pretty much just as appealing to me as her and Jonah but honestly between the three storylines I care about this when the least by far.

      1. Yeah, I don’t think they’d bring Jonah on just to have both Becky and Jonah magically lose their faith. Becky has wavered in her faith since everything that’s happened and that’s 100% believable, but she hasn’t completely lost it (she’s just lost and alone right now). It’s more likely Jonah was brought on board to actually re-strengthen her faith. Jonah also didn’t hesitate in telling Becky that he has a dark past, so while the door is open for him to slip back into his ways both Becky and Jonah could exist to support each other spiritually.

  8. Really liked this episode..Maya needs to still mind her business though and worry about making herself better. The squad is going down and i feel its the new little girl dating hunter (she looks so young its annoying). Wouldnt this be a mindfuck if we find out its Zoe behind her own sabotage, she is an attention seeking chick anyways. & Miles is a douche im ready for him to have his breakdown/breakthrough im not with the shits. Gonna need tristan to get his act together and love himself or find a new boo, he deserves better. Loving how this season is developing.

  9. So… nooo one thinks the stalker is Zig? The Hollingsworth thing just seems like misdirection… I mean, it came from a tower *near* their house. I don’t think the Hollingsworths have their own personal cell tower. Maya and Miles did seem to easily get to each other’s houses without cars, and Zig lives with Maya… Zig has shown that when he likes someone, he doesn’t give up after the first “no”… Zig and Zoe did have their falling out after he was getting a bunch of nudes from random girls… I’ve just convinced myself even more, it’s so Zig.
